Located in the Beaver Valley, The Farmer’s Pantry is a 30-acre organic apple orchard, hobby farm and farm market owned and operated by Sarah Hewgill and her family, 3 generations of apple growers.
A wonderful destination for an outing, the hobby farm, which is open daily, operates seasonally from June through to November and offers an array of activities suitable for family fun and the perfect opportunity to unplug. You can enjoy everything from U-pick apples in season, a petting farm, games like mini golf through the orchard, a cedar maze and a family activity centre. Who could resist the opportunity to take a goat for a walk, cuddle with a bunny or check out the ducks, chickens, sheep and pigs? They've even got a resident alpaca.
Admission is wallet-friendly at only $10 per person, and you can stay as long as you like and even bring in your own lunch or grab a refreshment from the farm market to enjoy at one of the many picnic tables. The farm market offers locally produced maple syrup, preserves, honey, pies, meats, seasonal produce and a nice selection of gifts and toys.
"We really love it when families come and visit. You can tell that they're happy and having a great time. We offer good old-fashioned fun and it's like I'm inviting people into my very own, very big backyard," says Sarah. "Our event barn is a great place for family gatherings, birthday parties and celebrations, and it offers shelter if Mother Nature is being moody," she continues. "Our really busy time is September and October when people visit from all over to come and pick our apples and get a hands-on experience in the country."
You can find The Farmer's Pantry at 788030 Grey Road 13, Thornbury, visit them on Facebook or Instagram and the contact Sarah through e-mail.
