Located right on Marsh Street in the charming town of Clarksburg, reDiscovered on Marsh offers a handpicked selection of unique antique and vintage items for your home. Owned and operated by Kara and Dan Bowles, this delightful shop has become a favourite for locals and visitors alike, offering one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate history and craftsmanship.

From Personal Passion to a Thriving Business

Kara and Dan's journey into the antique business began decades ago when they were furnishing their first home. "It quickly became clear that the things we wanted were either out of our budget or poorly made," Kara explains. "We decided to wait and find what we were looking for, and that’s when we started discovering incredible antique items at auction sales."

Over time, their passion for antiques grew, leading them to buy, restore, and refinish pieces while pursuing their careers in education. "It was a great release for us, something outside of education," says Kara. "Dan became quite skilled at refinishing, and we continued to grow our collection."

The Dream of Owning a Store

Opening a store was always part of Kara’s vision. "We’d been doing booths in antique malls and antique shows for years, but I always wanted my own shop," she says. After years of hard work, Kara and Dan opened reDiscovered on Marsh. "We wanted a space where we could truly interact with our customers and have control over the presentation of the items," says Kara. "You can't do that in a booth as it is difficult to keep displays organized, and you don’t get the chance to connect with people when you aren’t there."

The space, which was previously an antique store, has been completely transformed by Kara and Dan. "I grew up in this area, so Clarksburg has always felt like home to me," Kara explains. "We’ve opened up the space, added improved lighting, and made it a place where people can really explore and see everything clearly. It's about creating a shopping experience that makes it easier for customers to find what they want."

A Curated Collection of Vintage Treasures

At reDiscovered on Marsh, the Bowles’ love for vintage décor and craftsmanship shines through. Kara’s daughter, Hanna, a mid-century modern enthusiast, has her own area in the store, Dusted Rose Vintage, offering a selection of carefully curated mid-century modern pieces. Kara and Dan’s collection is diverse, ranging from antique furniture to unique vintage home accessories and decor, all of which are handpicked from auctions, estate sales, and other antique shops.

"We're constantly on the lookout for new pieces," Kara says. "We go to antique shows, markets, and thrift shops.  Now that we have our store, people come to us with their items, too. It’s a great way to stay connected to the community."

Some of the most surprising finds at the shop have been items that Kara never expected to be in high demand. "I found some vintage champagne coupes, which are very hard to come by, but I found some in great condition, and they sold right away." Kara also noticed a surge of interest in their Christmas ornaments. "Every year, we see more and more demand for vintage Christmas décor, especially unique ornaments," she says. "It's amazing how quickly they go, and it seems people are really drawn to the nostalgia and charm they bring to their holiday displays."

Building Community Through Shared Interests

reDiscovered on Marsh isn’t just a shop; it's a part of a larger community of like-minded businesses in the Clarksburg and Thornbury area. "Clarksburg is a quaint town with great people and unique businesses," says Kara. "We work with other local businesses to create a more cohesive shopping experience. There are so many incredible shops here, and we want people to know we exist beyond just the main highway."

Kara, Dan, and other local shop owners have worked together to promote the area as a destination for antique lovers, launching a website @antiquetrail.ca to highlight their businesses. "We’re not competing with each other," Kara says. "When a new antique shop opens, it’s not negative; it adds to the experience. We’re all offering something unique, and it helps draw more people to the area."

Looking Ahead: Growth and Community Impact

As for what’s next, Kara and Dan have big plans for reDiscovered on Marsh. "We’re looking to promote the antique trail more and hopefully create events to draw people in," says Kara. "As the promoters for the Thornbury Antique show, we recently donated part of the proceeds to Events for Life, which was really rewarding. We want to continue supporting the community while growing our store."

For the Bowles, the antique business isn’t just about sales; it’s about creating meaningful connections with people. "When people come in and ask about their pieces, we try to be as helpful and kind as possible," Kara says. "It’s important to us that people feel like their items are going to the right home."
